Nitro Equine is breeding quality. Well-thought-out matches of broodmares to stallions, combined with the right handling, starting, schooling, and competing, we are producing safe children's ponies, enjoyable all-rounders, as well as competitive performance ponies & sport horses.
Also renowned for sell-on-behalf, project ponies, breaking-in quality children’s ponies, and safe all-rounders, Nitro Equine has sold over 400 horses since and has matched many families with their real-life unicorns, and we enjoy following each of those combinations and their successes with them.
As part of the sales process, we offer full known history, previous owners, live video viewings, pre-purchase inspections, and nationwide transportation can be arranged as part of our service.
Nitro Equine was started in 2013 by Rachael Macdonald who decided to future breed ponies after realising the cost of quality ponies (let alone horses) was well out of reach for her family.
Now we are breeding 2-4 a year with the intention to produce as far as possible before sold. We use our own stallions live cover and outside stallions AI or live cover.
Our mares are selected based on bloodlines, temperament and own merits. We retain some of our homebred's for mare lines, and some are chosen to produce and compete.
Our breeding comes from Welsh, German Riding Pony, Morgan, Connemara, Thoroughbred, Holsteiner as well as East Coast, Northland and station bred lines.
With the help of family including daughters Emma and Lucie, sponsored riders, catch riders and team members, we are getting our brand recognized across NZ for not only our own homebred horses but campaigning selected projects and sell on behalf horses too.

Palomino Welsh Cob Pony Stallion stood at stud from 2017 to 2022. We owned from a yearling, started and produced till sold (to Whangarei) in his first season under saddle. We bred 10 progeny and are excited to see them grow up, then out and about.
